Gene Colan and Joe Sinnott Captain America #117 First Appearance of the Falcon Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1969). Marvel truly came of age with this issue of Captain America, which introduced their first mainstream African-American superhero (the earlier Black Panther was from the fictional African nation Wakanda). The Falcon, aka Samuel Wilson, joins forces with Cap to form a long-running partnership, before eventually becoming an Avenger. The art is in ink and graphite on World Color Bristol board, with an image area of 10" x 15"; the type blurb over the Falcon's head is a recent replacement. Note that Cap's image differs slightly from the published comic, with his head moved up, clipping the lower portion of the "A" in the title logo, a change made during production (a color copy of the printed cover is included for comparison). Overall Very Good condition. Signed by inker Sinnott in the lower right.
