Gene Colan and Bill Everett Iron Man and Sub-Mariner #1 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1968). The cover proclaimed this a "Special Once-in-a-Lifetime Issue", and they weren't kidding! This issue was created to bridge the gap as these two characters each leapt from books they shared with other Marvel heroes into their own solo titles! Namor and the Hulk had been bunkmates in Tales to Astonish, and the Hulk kept the numbering from that title. Iron Man had been stationed with Captain America in Tales of Suspense, where the good Captain kept the numbering. This resulted in Namor and Iron Man getting two #1 issues out of the transition. With a combo of Colan and Everett on the artwork, it really was a special cover! Crafted twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13.25" x 20.25". The published image looks slightly different, as a stat was created from Namor and used to move him up into the frame and overlapping the logo much more. That stat has been removed from this image (leaving some glue residue/discoloration), and some cleaning has been done on the art. The logo is a replacement stat. The hand-lettered original art cover blurb at the bottom is the original. The cover has been trimmed to the margins and affixed to a larger sheet of illustration board. In Very Good condition.
