Gahan Wilson National Lampoon Magazine Complete 1-Page Story "Nuts" Original Art (NatLamp Publ., 1972). The weight of the world closes in upon schoolboy Gahan Wilson as he struggles to comprehend the meaning of his first observation of a gay person. His parents ask all the wrong oppressive questions. The great cartoonist's autobiographical serial, "Nuts," gave vent to his memories of a tormented childhood -- and yes, the title is a backhanded takeoff on Charles Schulz's Peanuts, which Wilson considered an over-sweetened view of kid life. The densely compacted panel compositions -- cramming every square inch with suffocating detail -- convey Wilson's sense of confinement in a situation he would have preferred to avoid. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 10". Light toning. Excellent condition.
