Frank Miller The Dark Knight Returns #4 Preliminary Study Illustration Original Art (DC, 1986). Our consignor is parting with this piece to help finance his daughter's college education, but tells us he never would have let it go otherwise. You can see why it hurts to let it go, given the presence of the three main characters as well as the impressive size of the image. It's said that Miller re-worked some panels of The Dark Knight several times over, and you can see an example here. This is an original inked drawing, and pasted next to it is the finished panel from page 17 of the book (Total page size is 10.75" x 13.75". Original art measures approximately 6" x 11", 6" x 12" with signature). Also included is a photocopy of the pencils from page 17 of the comic (image area of 10" x 15.75"). Both the original drawing and the photocopied pencils are signed by Frank Miller. The photocopy shows some yellowing and a slit near some production tape, it is in Very Good condition.
