Description

Frank Hamilton (as Franklyn E. Hamilton) Walter Gibson: The Man behind the Shadow Original Art (1973). Hamilton nails the ominous aspect of the Shadow, the pulp magazines' most prominent crimebuster, down to the finer detail of his prominent profile -- the Shadow nose. The diorama-like composition is given a 3-D illusion with a rear-projection portrait of creator Gibson, and with a foreground tableau depicting a criminal rampage. The stippling technique, or pointillism, is a wonder to behold -- millions of tiny dots, coalescing into a drawing. Hamilton's accompanying note cites his work on a Shadow history called Gangland's Doom. A photostatic print of one Gangland's Doom illustration completes the package. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 8" x 10.5", matted to 12.5" x 15". Excellent condition.
