Frank Frazetta The Amsirs and the Iron Thorn Painted Book Cover Original Art (Fawcett, 1967). The 1967 paperback edition of Algis Budrys' exciting science fiction novel had the honor of being graced with a fantastic painted cover by the one and only Frank Frazetta, and it's a real corker, with an exotic alien landscape background and a muscle-bound Buck Rogers-like hero engaged in battle with a strange, winged creature brandishing a spear. This is the stuff collector's dreams are made of, with wonderful, rich colors as only Frazetta could paint. The art is in oils on canvas board, with the paint built up in certain areas to create an interesting texture. The painting has an approximate image area of 17.25" x 23.25", and the art is framed (without glass) to an overall size of 23" x 29". It's in Excellent condition.
This particular painting has been reproduced in several books on Frazetta, most recently in Testament: A Celebration of the Life and Art of Frank Frazetta, and has been greatly admired by Frazetta's many fans. A peak period classic that has never been offered on the auction market previously, and chances are good that once it has been sold, it will not come back up for years, if ever.
