Description

Frank Frazetta "Gollum" Painting Original Art (1973). Gollum from J. R. R. Tolkien's novel The Hobbit, and its sequel The Lord of the Rings. Frazetta's amazing moody depiction of the corrupted Hobbit once known as Smeagol uses browns and dark greens to suggest the eerie ill-lit subterranean cave pool in which readers first meet him. Frazetta's artwork is of high interest to collectors at this time, and a vintage 1973 piece such as this, especially with a connection to a fan-beloved classic book series, is sure to make this someone's Precious! Frazetta created a justifiably revered portfolio of LOTR pen-and-ink masterpieces in his 1970s heyday-but this is the ONLY painting he ever created from Tolkien's hugely popular book (and later film) epic. Rendered edge-to-edge in oil on 12" x 16.5" pressboard. It is signed and dated in the lower left. Light surface/edge wear, and in otherwise Excellent condition.
