Floyd Gottfredson Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse Matching Set of Sunday Comic Strips Original Art dated 10-3-37 (King Features, 1937). A very rare matched set of Disney newspaper art, including a Silly Symphonies starring Donald Duck (some two years before Donald's Al Taliaferro-drawn Sunday strip began) and a Mickey Mouse "Sheriff of Nugget Gulch" episode. While Gottfredson usually left Donald to other artists, he did draw this one, as evidenced by an accompanying photo of him at the drawing board, working on the top two tiers of this strip. The Donald strip has an image area of 27" x 17", with some minor stains in several panels; the Mickey strip has a similar size, and is in Excellent condition. The two strips are matted and Plexiglas framed together for an overall size of 34" x 42.5". We can't remember a time we've seen two related vintage strips from the same day matted together like this (there are only two known sets), and we may never see another like this. For the Disney enthusiast and original art collector, it doesn't get much better! From The Art of the Funnies Collection.
