Erik Larsen and Mike Machlan Amazing Spider-Man #340 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1990). This is the first Larsen cover from this series we've ever offered, and pre-1991 Larsen art is in short supply for a tragic reason: a house fire in 1991 destroyed all of the art the artist still had in his possession at that point. If the "Femme Fatales" on this cover seem familiar, it might be because they are similar to (if not patterned after as a tribute to) Jack Kirby's "Female Furies" from his Fourth World Saga. It's easy to see Big Barda, Lashina, and Mad Harriet in the main three on the cover. Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9.75" x 15". The corner box, logo, UPC box, and all cover text are stat paste-ups. Signed by the artists in the lower right image area, and signed again in the lower margin. The toned board is in Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
