    Description

Edward Sheriff Curtis Native American Photo Group of 4 (c. 1940s). Edward Curtis (1968-1952) was one of the most important photographers of Native Americans, and his goal was to document their traditional life. His work included more than 400,000 photos encompassing more than 80 tribes; much of this material is now in permanent collections in museums and university archives, as well as in the Library of Congress. These are four original first-generation silver gelatin photographs of Native Americans, each with Curtis' signature mark. They measure 11" x 14" and are housed in their original Knott's wood frames measuring 14" x 17". Three of the photos are titled: "The Oath Apsaroke", "At the Old West Acoma", and "Out of Darkness". The frames have holes from where they were originally bolted to the wall in Ghost Town for display. Minor handling from public park display; the glass on one of the frames has a few cracks on the top right corner. Important and historical photos! Good condition.
