Edgar Church Marsh-Slocum Dude Ranch Original Decorative Advertising Art (c. 1940s). Church spent many years as a preferred advertising artist among agencies throughout the Great Southwest. He'd rather have been drawing comic books, but work is work -- and Church worked a great deal of comics-style influence into thousands of advertising pieces. This vacation-resort piece is emblematic of his output: Boldly designed, illustrated for full inviting impact, and lettered by hand in a way that no mechanical typesetting job could match. (Comics fans know Church as the compiler of the legendary Mile High Collection of early-day funnybooks.) Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 7". Excellent condition.
