Dick Sprang "Secrets of the Batcave" Illustration Original Art (Gotham Graphics, 1995). A hyper-detailed, mesmerizing illustration that was used for a series of limited edition prints (the largest print run was only 500 units). Master Batman artist Dick Sprang was often referred to as the "Good Bob Kane" back in the days when few comics creators received credit on the printed page, and all Batman art was credited to Bob Kane. Even without the by-line, Sprang's work was easy to spot, and has been popular with collectors for years. Unfortunately, much of his original art from the 1940s through to his retirement in 1963 has been lost, making the few surviving pieces highly desirable among collectors. This huge original for the limited edition print (which has since sold out) should be considered the ultimate Dick Sprang Batman original art, and it's loaded with incredible detail taken from many classic stories. The backside of the massive piece has a personal hand-written note from Dick Sprang that reads "The subject matter and general layout of the artwork was suggested by Joe Desris and Ron Fernandez. I created the various unit compositions which I penciled, inked, and colored, completing the work in my Arizona studio on April 28th, 1995. Dick Sprang" Produced in ink and watercolor over graphite on 36" x 26.5" illustration board with an image area of 33" x 23". The prints created from this original work of art were 1-to-1 scale prints. There is slight tanning in the margins and some edge/corner wear, however, the image area is in Excellent condition.
