    Description

Dave Sim glamourpuss #14 Splash Page 2 "The Strange Death of Alex Raymond" Original Art (Aardvark-Vanaheim 2010). Alex Raymond "on the last morning of his life" -- September 6, 1956 -- depicted here rising late in the morning, having finished the last week of Rip Kirby strips he would ever finish (September 24 to 30). The 1955 gull-wing Mercedes SL300 is his pride and joy, and it is the car upon which Stan Drake's 1956 Corvette had been modelled. "I'm going to use this splash-page image in 'The Strange Death of Alex Raymond'," writes Dave Sim, "What I haven't made up my mind about is if I'm going to use the Stamford, Connecticut Mayapple Road house seen in the background. Was Alex Raymond still living in the palatial home with Helen Raymond, his high-school sweetheart and wife of twenty years? Or had he moved bag and baggage into his downtown Stamford studio at 65 South Street? Stan Drake's notorious 1996 'Hogan's Alley' interview suggests the latter. But, then, the interview itself has a strange checkered history to it." One thing is for certain, this is a gem of a piece of Strange Death of Alex Raymond artwork created in ink over graphite on illustration board with an image area of 11" x 14.25". Signed by Sim below the image area. Minor corner wear, and in Excellent condition. From the Dave Sim Collection.
