Dave Gibbons Watchmen #5 Pages 14-15 Original Art and Color Guide Group (DC, 1987). These two dramatic pages provided a major event in the Watchmen saga with the apparent assassination attempt of Adrian Veldt, aka Ozymandias. As Watchmen experts know, the story was called "Fearful Symmetry," and the entire issue was symmetrical: i.e. the first panel of the comic corresponded to the last panel of the comic, and so on. This is the centerspread where everything came together. The slaying of former "superheros" is a main theme in this award-winning alternate reality series, which has been acclaimed "...the greatest piece of popular fiction ever produced" by Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of the hit television program Lost. Pages of original Watchmen artwork have been highly coveted, with only a small handful landing in previous Heritage auctions, and none more important than this double-page spread. The crisp line art of Dave Gibbons is fully on display in these two wordless pages that break up Gibbon's usual nine-panel grid. Each page has an image area of 10" x 15.75", and are in Excellent condition. As a bonus, John Higgins' original color guides for both pages are included.
