Daniel Clowes Lloyd Llewellyn #6 Cover Original Art (Fantagraphics, 1987). If there ever was a modern-day successor to the great Bernard Krigstein, it has to be Daniel Clowes. Clowes closely channels the Krigstein spirit in this wild split cover for the final issue of his offbeat "detective" series (not counting a 1988 Special edition). Lloyd Llewellyn was a crazy mix of 1950s lounge culture, early sixties monster comics and toys, and a healthy dose of Lowbrow Art. Final story "The Nightmare," pictured here to the right, set the stage for Clowes' strange masterpiece, "Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron," serialized in his next comic, Eightball. This cover is drawn in ink with white paint over graphite on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 11.75" x 14". The hand-lettered masthead is on a separate piece of board, held in place by several pieces of white tape; other than some light soiling around the tape and some mild board tanning, the art remains in Excellent condition. Comic book covers by Mr. Clowes don't come our way often, so don't miss this opportunity!
