    Description

Curt Swan and Tex Blaisdell Hostess Cup Cakes Ad "The Flash in 'Marathon Madman'" Complete 1-Page Story Original Art (DC, 1982). Of note in this story (besides the rich chocolaty taste) is the fact that the villain is referred to as both "Dr. Alchemy" and in the next panel as "Dr. Sorcery". The later was with a text correction paste-up, so likely someone noticed he did not look like the actual Flash villain Dr. Alchemy and made an attempt to change his name (missing one instance). This as was published in 21 DC books in February of 1982. That's two-thirds of the titles they published that month! Crafted in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The Flash logo, the lower caption box, and the cup cakes image are all stat paste-ups. There is a missing copyright notation strip on the left margin, and the one in the bottom margin is coming loose. There is glue residue near most of these paste-ups. In Very Good condition. From the Tex Blaisdell Archives.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
