    Description

Curt Swan and Tex Blaisdell Hostess Cup Cakes Ad "Batman in 'Someone is Kidnapping the Great Chefs of Gotham" Complete 1-Page Story Original Art (DC, 1979). This sweet treat of Curt Swan art ran as an ad in DC books from June to July of 1979 for a total of at least 18 appearances! The Hostess advertising campaign for Cup Cakes, Twinkies, and Fruit Pies were very clever as they used DC's main "house style" artist Curt Swan, and each one was designed to look like just another page of comic book story... which almost ensured that the reader would at least start reading the ad before realizing they had been "Rick-rolled". The ubiquitous ads have a warm place in the hearts of many fans. This is a great looking Swan/Blaisdell page with the delicious, moist cake treat. Crafted in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Slightly toned, glue residue in the margins, production oil stains in Panels 6 and 8, a text correction in Panels 1 and 6, and a staple in the top left corner. Also, the logo is a stat paste-up, and the story title is a hand-lettered paste-up. In Very Good condition. From the Tex Blaisdell Archives.
