Curt Swan and Murphy Anderson Action Comics #406 Story Page 6 Original Art (DC Comics, 1971). Leo Dorfman, one of the more prolific Superman scribes, indulges a fondness for horror yarns (he also wrote for DC's Ghosts) in this confrontation between Superman and a spook in a Superman suit. Swan and Anderson, a perfect pairing of illustrators, capture ideally a balance between heroic adventure and creepy mystery. The early-1970s' reinvention of the Superman franchise often veered into out-and-out weirdness -- and here is one of the more striking examples. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Toned, with white-paint retouching, editorial marks in blue pencil, and handling wear. Very Good condition. From the Murphy Anderson Collection.
