    Description

Win Mortimer (attributed) Battle of the Planets #1 Unpublished Cover Original Art (Western/Gold Key, 1979). G-Force, five incredible young people with superpowers... and watching over them from Centre Neptune, 7-Zark-7. Reported to be the first of the "super sentai" team cartoons, this animated hit was originally known as Science Ninja Team Gatchaman in Japan. This series had very clever symbolism. The heroes were each modeled on a different type of bird, and they fought scores of agents in cat-like costumes lead by a villain with a bat motif. This unpublished cover art appears to be drawn based on the promo art from the animated show itself, and for whatever reason that same promo art, not this line-drawn version, was actually used on the printed comic instead. Great image of Mark, Princess, Jason, Tiny, Keyop, the Fiery Phoenix, and the evil Zoltar. Ink over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 13.75" x 19". Comes with a vintage photostat of the logo affixed to a separate Bristol board.
