Description

Walt Disney Huey, Dewey, and Louie Junior Woodchucks #9 Cover Recreation Original Art (Gold Key, 1971). Very unusual piece of reproduction art, taken from the April 1971 issue. The cover is reproduced on an acetate cel, with just a few minor differences. It depicts Donald and his three nephews (in their official Junior Woodchuck coonskin hats). The boys have tied a large knot in Donald's water hose as a prank and Donald has just discovered the culprits! He glowers down at his nephews while the three boys giggle together. The image has been painted on a cel, perhaps as practice for an artist-in-training? The title information and the 15 cent cover price have all been rendered by hand on the front of the cel. The official Gold Key publisher's logo has been cut out from an existing comic and pasted into the top left corner, so that the complete piece closely resembles the actual comic cover. A significant portion of the title lettering has been lost (mostly for Dewey's name) and there is paint loss and separation throughout the painted image area of Donald and the boys. There is color fading throughout, specifically on the areas colored in blue and purple. Matted and framed with Plexiglass. The piece is in Fair condition.
