DescriptionWalt Cowhand Paperback Cover Original Art (Peveril Books, c. 1950). The British fascination with the American West shows to fine advantage in this all-but-anonymous large-scale gem, commissioned for a novel by John Sim. The portrait almost could pass for a scene from some movie by John Ford, with its dominant figure combining the features of two of Ford's principal actors, John Wayne and Ward Bond. Signed only as "Walt". The title logotype and byline are part of the painting -- no pasted-in typeset lettering. (The publisher's small logotype is a pasted photostat.) Gouache on Illustration board. Image area, 9.5" x 14.5", framed to 21" x 26". Excellent condition.
