Various Philippine Komix Covers Original Art Group of 6 (Various, c. 1979-1996). In the late 1970's a wave of Filipino comic creators came to the US, largely led by the success of Tony DeZuniga. There was a push at DC comics to look for new talent, and the Philippines were rich with it. There are two covers in this group of six that are from the Philippines in 1979. One is by Nar Cantillo and was the cover for a title identified as KSK #260. The other is by Hal Santiago and was the cover for Pioneer Komiks #571. It features the face of a crocodile hidden in the swamp and may have been the first part of the serialized novel "Tamlin". From approximately a decade later, we offer four more covers... a work by Zar Paraiso Alipis (1991), the cover for Extra Special #1191 by Dante Barreno Jr. (1989), a cover titled "The Prodigal" by Mhel Almeda (1996), and a cover by Arnel Aventria (1996). It is easy to see the effect of Image Comics reflecting back on the two pieces from 1996. Interestingly, Image Comics co-founder Whilce Portacio is also from the Philippines. These are all ink on paper of various sizes, the largest is 11" x 16.5". They are tanned, with folds, stains, and handling. Overall they are in Good condition and have some wonderful art.
