Cover painting for a version of "Le Chanson de Roland" (The Song of Roland) in it's original French. The Song of Roland is a heroic poem based on the Battle of Roncevaux in 778 AD, during the reign of Charlemagne. It is the oldest surviving major work of French Literature. Tom Gianni is known for his paintings that have been used in the Magic: The Gathering collectible card game. This work is oil on coated archival Canson pastel paper with an image area of approximately 10" x 15". It is signed in the lower left. In Excellent condition.
