Todd McFarlane Amazing Spider-Man #300 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1988). It would be impossible to find an artist of the Modern Age who has had a bigger impact on Spider-Man than Todd McFarlane. We've sold some great covers by the master in the last several years - including one that is still tied for the record of most expensive piece of American comic art of all time - but none more iconic than this cover which is an absolute classic piece featuring Spider-Man in one of the very last times he would ever wear the black costume (because it turned out to be an alien symbiote). This is the issue that marked the first full appearance of Venom (a combination of Eddy Brock and the black costume symbiote). Covers just don't get any more memorable. This one is burned into the collective imagination of all comic fans from that period, and it is one of the most impressive covers to come to market from any period in recent memory. Signed by McFarlane in three places on the front. Ink on bright white Marvel Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". All Spidey art and the top web are in india ink, while the lower web is a stat. The background elements (corner box, text, logo, the "300" pattern background, and cityscape) are all stats with some touch ups in ink and marker. Only the slightest of corner wear, and as an added bonus, there is a signed hand-written note on the back from McFarlane (presumably to the Editor, Jim Salicrup). Don't miss your chance at one of the greatest Marvel covers to ever come on the market! In Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
