Steve Rude - Mister Miracle Special Cover Original Art (DC, 1986). There's only one Super Escape Artist, and that's Mister Miracle! This entertaining one-shot was produced in the mid-'80s as a tribute to King Kirby, with the art chores being handled by Steve "the Dude" Rude, and the end result was nothing short of splendiferous. Offered here is the eye-popping cover artwork by Rude, which features Scott Free, Big Barda, Oberon, and of course, the evil Darkseid. Bold and simple, this cover captures all the excitement of the classic series, making the Dude one of the clearest successors to the Kirby throne. The artwork measures 11.25" x 16.5", and has some minor condition issues. The piece was creased in a roughly horizontal line at some point, which is noticeable from the back, but virtually invisible from the front, making it a perfect display piece. Otherwise, it's a solid Very Good condition piece, looking as crisp and sharp as the day it was drawn. If you're a Mr. Miracle fan (and really, who isn't?), you will sacrifice all to add this stunner to your collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
