DescriptionSteve Lightle Classic X-Men #37 Cover Phoenix Original Art (Marvel, 1989). This original cover was designed for the issue that reprinted X-Men #131, part of the "Dark Phoenix Saga" which featured Jean Grey's slow slide to the dark side. The cover shows her (still in the green Phoenix costume) defeating Emma Frost (the White Queen). This was also the issue where Dazzler and Kitty Pryde were both offered a place on the team. Dazzler turned it down (for a while) and Kitty went on to huge popularity on the team. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9.75" x 15". All lettering is paste-up except the word "Classic," which is on a separate acetate overlay for production reasons. Some production tape in the margins, a staple bottom right corner, and slight tanning, otherwise in Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.View More Testimonials
