DescriptionSkip Williamson Bijou Funnies #5 Cover Original Art (Kitchen Sink, 1970). Burly, bearded Skip portrays himself as a hard-hitting superhero, protecting his family from an oppressive landlord, in this classic cover from one of the earliest Underground Comix anthologies, Bijou Funnies. Skip is quite a character himself, with a very colorful history; he's probably the most political-minded of all the Underground artists, befriending Abbie Hoffman (Skip drew the illustrations for Hoffman's notorious Steal This Book), working as art director for various men's magazines like Hustler and eventually Playboy, and the creator of Snappy Sammy Smoot, who was featured on the 1960s TV series Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (played by Carl Reiner).
This cover art is drawn in ink over graphite with Zipatone shading film on illustration board, with an image area of 9" x 12". The artboard was sprayed with a thin coat of fixative; other than minor handling wear in the outer border areas, it remains in Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
