Sam Glanzman - Kona #17 Cover Original Art (Dell, 1966). Dell published 21 issues of Kona, Monarch of Monster Isle from 1962-67 and, although Sam Glanzman drew all of the interiors, he only drew six published covers for the title, and this was his second one. Kona spotlighted dinosaurs, giant insects, sea serpents, huge radioactive snakes, super-sized spiders, saber-toothed tigers, mutants worthy of Hieronymus Bosch, titanic sharks, prehistoric ape-people, giant birds, and other bizarre monsters. Sam Glanzman’s uncanny skill at drawing believable critters, no matter how outrageous their size or circumstances, was a key in the series' success. This hard-hitting cover by Glanzman has an image area of 10" x 15" and, although there is some very light scattered staining, and the logo and masthead are recent replacements, the art is in otherwise Excellent condition.
