Description
Sal Buscema and Jim Mooney Captain America #155 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1972). Captain America (Steve Rogers), Captain America ("Steve Rogers"), Bucky (Jack Monroe), and the Red Skull appear together on this cover with several other lesser characters from the tale "The Incredible Origin of the Other Captain America". It told the story of the 1950s replacements for the original Captain American and Bucky. Jack Monroe would turn up in this series again years later and take on the mantle of Nomad. Sadly, he was the first on-panel victim of the Winter Soldier when the original Bucky Barnes was revived as a Soviet assassin. This cover was created with many cut-and-paste pieces added. While this is the final version of the art, from which the cover for Cap #155 was produced, it differs from the original art in several respects. Cap and the figures below him are original art and in their original location. The Red Skull and Bucky are also original art, but had been cut out and moved from their original location to create the published version of the cover. All of the other small figures are printed paste-up stats, created from the original art that may lay underneath, given the whiteout and layers present, necessitated by the altering of the background from the original drawing. Marvel Masterworks: Captain America Vol. 7 provides an image of the original art prior to the edits used to create this final published cover version. The primary visual differences are the Red Skull and Bucky heads switching sides and the background changed from a sunburst to the shield used in the published version. There is whiteout throughout and production tape on all of the figures and floating heads other than Cap and the figures immediately below him. The entire masthead is a stat, and the issue number incorrectly shown as #115, which was corrected to #155 before printing. The original art was produced in ink over graphite (with whiteout art corrections) on World Color Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Overall, this is in Fair condition.More information about Sal Buscema. See also: Buscema, Sal Artist. Lookup the Comic Book in our Guide
