Sal Buscema and Frank Giacoia Defenders #2 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1972). The four original Defenders (Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, Namor, and the Hulk) get a bad case of Calizuma on this cover! The story inside promises "The Secret of the Silver Surfer!" This cover was created from several components affixed to a World Color Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The printed figures of Doctor Strange, the Surfer, and Namor are stat paste-ups with whiteout, now loose, revealing the original renderings of the three characters! You can see an image of the published piece (before the stats were removed) in our catalog, as well as online as the second image. The Hulk's head is an original art paste-up, most likely with more original art underneath. The flying bad guy's missing arm was a paste-up, and it has left glue residue behind. There is thick whiteout in many places. The masthead/logo/corner box are all stat paste-ups, with some production tape and whiteout on them. The bottom caption text paste-up is missing, but there is a slit around Calizuma's foot for it to slide under. There are production stains in the margins (and even into the image area on the lower right). There are also two tears on the left side. One is right to the image area, the second is into the black and repaired with tape on the reverse. There is also a small rusty staple in the top left margin. In Good condition. Comes with a copy of the book.
