DescriptionRuss Heath War Adventures #13 Korean War Cover Original Art (Atlas, 1953). "What happens when 'The Commies Strike!' This explicitly violent cover is an excellent example of why comics got in trouble for shocking our youth in the 1950s. Although a prolific and popular cover artist for Atlas comics, very little of Russ Heath's hair-raising work from that company has actually survived. Heath deftly depicts the savage horrors of behind-enemy-lines, hand-to-hand combat in the Korean War with his celebrated ultra-realistic style. This gritty oversized thriller (from the last issue of the title) has an overall size of 14" x 20.5". Aside from overall aging, and missing type Photostats, the art is in Very Good condition. Signed at the lower left.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.View More Testimonials
