Robert Crumb Your Hytone Comix Inside Front Cover Original Art (Apex Novelties, 1971). R. Crumb discusses the "brilliant new comic magazine" Thrilling Murder Comics in this tongue-in-cheek ad page which served as the inside front cover to his solo book, Your Hytone Comix. By 1971, Crumb was already feeling jaded from his "overnight" success, and turned-off from the "peace and love" Hippie movement when he created Your Hytone, which was loaded with dark strips like "Pete the Plumber" and "Stinko's New Car." His reluctance to accept advertisements in his comics obviously didn't apply to someone like Apex Novelties mainman Don Donahue, but Crumb couldn't resist pushing the envelope as far as possible, adding notorious killers Richard Speck and Manson Family member Susan Atkins with bogus "quotes" along with comments by young children and a cute cartoon squirrel! The art is in ink on paper with an approximate image area of 8" x 12.5". All the lettering in the ad is by Crumb; only the Thrilling Murder cover is a photostat (as originally used in production of the page). There are a few stains and small scuffs in the lower ad listings, and the Apex Novelties address line at the bottom of the page is a taped-on original art replacement that has been torn in one area. Overall Very Good condition.
