DescriptionRobert Crumb Weirdo #23 Cover Original Art (Last Gasp, 1988). "This is a killer funnybook, dude!" R. Crumb goes California freestyle in this "rilly awesome" cover illustration to his long-running comics anthology, Weirdo. Make no mistake -- this is the kind of mindless youth culture that eventually drove Crumb away to France, where he's been living for the past twenty-plus years. In Crumb's world, it's still Post-World War II America, where old obscure Blues records provide the soundtrack instead of the latest Rap or Brittany Spears tunes. This cover's graphic designs are a tongue-in-cheek nod to the 1980s Los Angeles lowrider culture, a neat touch (another neat touch is a tiny pasted-on "The Brain" 1960s T-shirt image, in the lower right). The art is in ink with whiteout on Bristol board, with an image area of 12" x 15.25". Minor handling wear; Excellent condition. From the Graham Nash Collection.
