DescriptionRobert Crumb The Life and Death of Fritz the Cat Cover Original Art (Fantagraphics, 1993). Stories of R. Crumb's famous feline got collected into a nifty trade paperback edition in 1993. For this book's cover, Crumb produced what might well be his last drawing of Fritz the Cat, the character originally inspired by a Crumb family household pet, and the subject of many early (including childhood) comic stories. When a newly married Crumb set off for Europe with a giant sketchbook in hand, he began filling the pages with wild adventures of Fritz, most of which were reprinted in The Life and Death of Fritz the Cat. Later, tiring of the character, he killed Fritz off in The People's Comics (1972), in a story called "Fritz the Cat, Superstar." In this cover illustration, Crumb revisits this story, with Fritz hitting on a young female rabbit hitch-hiker. The art is in ink, graphite, and white out, and has an image area of approximately 10" x 12.5". The art has been professionally matted and archivally framed to an overall size of 16.5" x 19", and is in Excellent condition. A copy of the trade paperback is included.
