Robert Crumb Note Cover Original Art and Letter (1959-60). During his high school years, Robert Crumb struck up pen-pal correspondence with a few comics fans who happened to run across a copy of the Crumb Brothers 'zine, Foo, including Marty Pahls, who would go on to be a life long friend (and briefly a brother-in-law) to Robert. Crumb would write his letters on folded 8.5" x 11" paper, and draw a cover illustration for each one; this one has a doozy of a cover, featuring "King of Jazz - 1930", Paul Whiteman. Inside, there's a 13-page letter, all hand-written in ink by Crumb, who added a self-portrait at the end. The letter itself is dated November 8, 1959, while Crumb was still attending high school in Dover, Delaware, but the cover is dated March 17, 1960. It's unclear if the letter was simply begun in November and not mailed until the following March, or if this is in fact parts of two separate letters, but regardless, it's a fascinating piece of Crumb history. The overall condition is Fine, and the 5.5" x 8.5" cover, drawn in ink and pastel pencil, remains very colorful and sharp.
