Robert Crumb Motor City Comics #1 Cover Original Art (Last Gasp/Rip Off Press, 1969). Our favorite female freedom fighter, Lenore Goldberg, delivers a crushing blow to "the man" in this fabulous cover from the hand of America's number one Underground artist, R. Crumb. This mind-blowing masterpiece hails from Crumb's "golden era," when he was traveling around the country (in this case, Detroit), following his muse and doing comic pages everywhere he went. It's a wonder so many comics were turned out in those hectic days, but the resulting work was Crumb at his best, as represented by this cover, which appeared on his third major solo comic book (after Zap #0 and 1).

The art, drawn in Crumb's typical mechanical pen style, has an image measuring approximately 9" x 11.5", on a page of bristol measuring 11" x 13.75". The art exhibits some minor soiling along the border edges, with a few light stains here and there, but the image itself remains in Excellent condition. Crumb has signed the page in ink. The art has been matted and framed to an overall size of 17" x 20.75".

Needless to say, the demand for choice Crumb originals is at an all-time high. Pages, especially covers, tend to slip into private collections and stay stashed away for decades. This cover ranks among the best of Crumb's enormous output, and is certain to become the highlight of whatever collection it eventually lands in. And once it's been sold, it will no doubt stay hidden away for many, many years to come. Don't miss this chance to add this to your own stash!
