Description

Robert Crumb Carload O' Comics Cover and Title Page Original Art (Belier Press, 1976). Come take a ride in the wildest car of all! The impact that Robert Crumb's comic art has had on the world since the late 1960s is enormous. His original Zap Comix not only blazed a new trail in the world of "funnybooks," it blew our collective mind like no other comic book before. Crumb's incredible way of taking the classic "bigfoot" style of cartooning to the modern age and beyond changed the Pop Culture landscape forever. Crumb's characters have quickly become the favorites of many -- Mr. Natural, Mr. Snoid, Angelfood McSpade -- they're all here in this classic cover to the first important book anthology of R. Crumb comics, R. Crumb's Carload O' Comics. And they're not alone -- the cover also includes the Ruff Tuff Creampuff (Despair Comics), Stinko the Clown (from Your Hytone Comics), Salty Dog Sam (from the surfing comic, Tales From the Tube), Ruth Schwartz (the classic "A Gurl" story from Big Ass Comics #2), one of Crumb's "Kilroy"-type heads, nose pointed to the sky, and behind the driver's seat, a happy-go-lucky pig in a white uniform! Too cool!!
The art for the cover is rendered in watercolor, ink, and Pantone color film, and is matted with an opening of 9.5" x 12.5". Matted next to the cover is the original art to the title page, drawn by Crumb is ink on paper, with an approximate image size of 7" x 10". But that's not quite all -- on the back of the frame is a printed copy of the cover. The art is framed with UV Plexiglas, for an overall size of 24.75" x 18.25". Both art pieces are in Excellent condition.
Robert Crumb original artwork is hotter than hot right now, with every collector searching for that quintessential R. Crumb piece to feature as the cornerstone of their collection. Well, look no further -- your Underground Comix masterpiece has arrived!
