Description

Reed Crandall Piracy #4 Cover Original Art (EC, 1955). Piracy's last pre-Code strike cuts straight across the deck. Reed Crandall sends two sea dogs into a blade fight above black water, with a ship on the horizon and death underfoot. EC's "New Direction" gamble kept adult menace alive inside adventure, and this cover shows the house method at full sail. Created twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12" x 18". The side bar, header, and logo are stat paste-ups with some discoloration. The logo stat is partially lifting at the edges, though still attached to the cover. The board is lightly toned, a small spot of marginal foxing, whiteout touch-ups outside the main image, and light handling/edge wear. In Very Good condition.
