Description
Rand Holmes Vancouver Star Vol. 2 #24 "Star Whores" Cover Original Art (Star Publishing Company, 1977). This Star Wars parody cover by underground comix legend Rand Holmes was published in a Canadian publication in 1977, at the height of Star Wars mania, delivering his signature suggestive and satirical twist on the franchise -- making fanboys' dreams (or nightmares) come true. Holmes, best known for Harold Hedd, Wings Over Tijuana, and Hitler's Cocaine, was a key figure in the underground comix movement. His meticulous inking and detailed craftsmanship are on full display in this piece, which was later used as the cover for Rand Holmes Complete Works #3. As a bonus, this offering includes the original CMYK negatives, making it a must-have for underground comix collectors. Ink, screentone, and white paint over blue pencil on illustration board with an image area of 10.5" x 14". Slight toning, stat logo paste-up with small pieces of tape around edges, discolored issue and date paste-ups, light smudging, production tape in top margin, discolored tape on left edge, glue residue due to missing paste-up at the top, minor spot staining in bottom margin, minor abrasions on edges, and minor corner/handling wear.
