Peyo Spirou #1447 "The Egg and the Smurfs" Cover Original Art (Spirou, 1966). Peyo himself, not any assistant, drew 100% of this cover! It was done for the magazine Spirou #1447, published on January 6, 1966. As you may know, eggs are associated with Three Kings' Day in some cultures, which is why the theme here matches the release date of the issue. The cover features Papa Smurf urging a hen to lay an egg, as the story "The Smurfs and The Egg" began in this issue of Spirou. Ten Smurfs can be spotted in this original (10" x 10.5") drawn in India ink. Signed Peyo, it was produced in December 1965 and was included in the first complete 'Smurfs' collection published in 2013 by Dupuis. Peyo was overwhelmed by the success of his creation and was assisted on the pages of the Smurfs comics, but he made it a point of honour to draw the covers of the weekly Spirou and the albums himself. Smurfs covers are very rare on the market! In Excellent condition.
