Description

Peter Poplaski Comix Book #1 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1974). A hugely important piece of comic art history: The short-lived Comix Book was a daring attempt by Marvel Comics' Stan Lee and Underground Comix publisher Denis Kitchen to tap into the burgeoning popularity of the Underground movement. The series stands as a fascinating chapter in the history of the medium. Poplaski's authentic cover, here, shows from differences from arbitrary alterations (made by Marvel's production department) before publication. This genuine design is the most representative stand-alone image of the historic title -- memorable and culturally important. Basic image, ink, white watercolor, and Zipatone shading film on illustration board, with dimensions of 9.75" x 12.5. Color plate, acrylics on translucent plastic, with corresponding dimensions. Toned, with marginal handling wear and a small tear in the background shading film. Very Good condition.
From the Denis Kitchen Collection.
