Description

Peter Poplaski Comix Book #1 Cover Detail Re-Creation Original Art (Kitchen Sink Press, 2013). Publisher Denis Kitchen has often revisited his experimental Comix Book project (1974 et seq.), to rewarding effect. This modern-age re-creation of the central image from the début issue's cover finds source-artist Poplaski in top form, as always -- as willing and able to recapture his 1970s drawing style, as he is adept at simulating any number of classic comic-book techniques. Comix Book had originated as a dual-publisher venture of Kitchen Sink Press and Marvel Comics, ahead of its time, as a bold advancement of creators' rights and an audacious attempt to expand the Underground Comix movement. This piece was designed for a Kitchen Sink retrospective collection. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 13.5" x 11.75". Excellent condition.
From the Denis Kitchen Collection.
