Peter Bagge Woman Rebel: The Margaret Sanger Story Cover Original Art (Drawn & Quarterly, 2013). Bagge breaks stride with his satirical leanings to tell the severe story of a nurse who became a birth-control activist and pioneering feminist during the early-middle 20th century. Bagge's rubber-limbed drawing style persists, to strong dramatic effect, to show how Sanger's angry, compassionate nature made her a convenient target for repression. (She originated Planned Parenthood, among other accomplishments.) Brilliant stuff from a master storyteller, and entirely consistent with Bagge's work as a next-generation Underground Comix master. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12.5" x 17". Excellent condition. Signed in pencil at lower right.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
