Description

Peter Bagge Weirdo Magazine #10 Rear Cover Autographed Original Art (Last Gasp Publ., 1984). Bagge assumes the editorship of Robert Crumb's signature magazine, Weirdo, and contributes this splendid punk-inspired image of an imaginary science-class assignment. (Bagge also graced this 10th issue with a classic tale of alienation, "The Reject.") Bagge's audacious vision, coupled with a heroic work ethic, saw him through a three-year hitch as editor of Weirdo in addition to his development at Fantagraphics Books of the solo-showcase Neat Stuff magazine and a sequelized series, Hate. The present selection is essential Bagge; autographed at lower margin. A renewed popular appreciation of Weirdo stems from editor-author Jon B. Cooke's The Book of Weirdo (Last Gasp, 2019), a historical survey. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 16". Excellent condition, with occasional white-paint retouching and one tipped-in lettering correction.
