Norman Nodel Classics Illustrated #6 HRN 166 A Tale of Two Cities Cover Painting Original Art (Gilberton, 1968). Classics Illustrated often reissued its earlier titles, invigorating them with dynamic new covers. Nodel's painting side-steps the gallows scenes that had been used on editions of 1948 and 1956, presenting instead a revolutionary mob scene of terrific energy. A mainstay of the Classics line, Nodel also was a fan-favorite because of his work on the first James Bond comic book, Dr. No (1962-63), issued in America as DC Comics' Showcase #43. Signed at lower left. Tempera and opaque watercolors on illustration board. The image area is 14.5" x 20.55", matted to 19.75" x 26". Excellent condition. From the Falvey Classics Illustrated Collection.
