Nick Cardy and Dave Gibbons Silver Age: Teen Titans #1 Cover Original Art (DC, 2000). As the cover hype says, "Here it is! An All-New tale from the 'Silver Age!'" In the year 2000, DC Comics produced several books designed to be "Lost" stories from the swingin' Sixties. And what better way to capture that feel than to have the cover pencils produced by one of the Teen Titans' top artists from the 1960s... Mr. Nick Cardy! Cardy's original pencil work (offered separately in this same auction) featured Wonder Girl in her red leotard. So when Dave Gibbons lightboxed the pencils to create this ink cover, he put her back in her original costume which she would be wearing in this story. It is attention to detail such as that, that makes this piece such a joy. Rendered in ink on DC Bristol board with an image area of 10.5" x 15". The text is a printed paste-up re-creation on a flip-up acetate overlay. NOTE: Cardy's work was lightboxed, so this is all Dave Gibbons' inks.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
