    Description

Murphy Anderson - The Brave and the Bold #62 Cover Preliminary Original Art (DC, 1965). Few covers can match the fannish thrills sparked by those DC Silver Age spectaculars that revived DC's glorious Golden Age legends. Murphy Anderson was the ideal artist to resurrect such stalwart heroes from funnybook valhalla. He was a comic book fan; he grew up reading them and had followed the Golden Age heroes ever since he bought his copy of Action Comics #1 off the magazine stands. Editor Julius Schwartz selected Anderson to illustrate two first-rate issues of The Brave and the Bold starring Starman and the Black Canary. Always a meticulous craftsman, Anderson produced this tightly detailed pencil preliminary for the cover to the thriller, "Big Super-Hero Hunt." The Sportsmaster and the Huntress deliver a one-two punch to Starman and the Black Canary. Meanwhile, waiting in the wings of this grudge-match, is Wildcat, who is spotlighted with a cameo portrait at the lower right! All the details and copy logo placement were worked out in this full-sized pencil piece, and the final inked cover only differs in a few minor points. The image area is 12.5" x 18.5". There are some glue stains in the logo area; otherwise the art is in Excellent condition. Murphy Anderson signed the piece at the lower right in the border.
