Description
Mort Meskin Leading Comics #1 Seven Soldiers of Victory Cover Original Art (DC, 1941). The Seven Soldiers of Victory showcased many of the great supporting players in the early DC Comics universe. The Justice Society of America was going strong, but mainly featured characters from All-American Publications, a sister company to National Periodical. And since Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman didn't need the extra exposure, this group was formed and became DC's second super-group.All of these characters are still around in some form or fashion in the DCU, so this is a pretty major cover!
Yes, there are only six of the seven pictured on this cover... Vigilante, Green Arrow, Star-Spangled Kid, Shining Knight, Speedy, and the Crimson Avenger. We are not sure why Stripesy is missing, but he sure played a large role on the Star Girl TV series. The Star-Spangled Kid (as "Star Man") and Shining Knight showed up on that series as well. We highly recommend it!
The twice-up scale cover was produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 17.25". There is an original art paste-up art correction on the Crimson Avenger's legs. The logo, masthead trade dressing, and lower caption are all printed paste-ups. Some are missing ("Features!" at the top and "Issue" at upper left), leaving glue residue. The toned board is matted and UV Plexiglas front framed to 19.5" x 24.5". In Very Good condition.
