Mike Ploog Fugue For A Darkening Island Paperback Cover Painting Original Art (Pan Science Fiction, 1978). For the UK 1978 re-release of Christopher Priest's dystopian novel, horror artist Mike Ploog was tapped to paint the cover image. Considered by many to be one of the two best horror artists in comics at the time (the other being Bernie Wrightson), Ploog's style has an organic and often "bubbling" feel to it. His skill at hiding foreboding images, such as the skeletons on the steps, adds to the subliminal creepiness of his work. Produced in watercolor over graphite on illustration board with an image area of approximately 13.5" x 22". Signed in the image area. There is toning and handling wear in the margins, otherwise in Excellent condition.
