Mike Mignola Batman #426 Cover "A Death In the Family" Original Art (DC, 1988). Part 1 of the infamous "A Death in the Family" story arc that ultimately resulted in the death of Robin II (Jason Todd). A great cover with a grim looking Batman, it pre-dated Mignola's Hellboy work by a full five years. Created in ink on DC cover stock with an image area of 9.75" x 15". The logo, DC bullet, price/issue box, CCA stamp, and cover text are all stat paste-ups. The cover text is on an onionskin overlay that has been trimmed and placed on the right side. There is an art correction paste-up on Batman's head. The cover board is toned, with frame burn. Signed in the image area and again in the lower margin. Matted and glass front framed to 16.75" x 22.5". In Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
